Unique Craft Shop "Popping Up" in Nicholsons Centre

A unique gift shop will be taking up temporary residence in an empty shop in Nicholsons Centre for 6 weeks.  Craft Coop, a group of local artists and craftspeople, will be occupying the former Waterstones shop from May 16th until June 24th.    Throughout the six weeks, local craftspeople will be filling the shop with a treasure trove of high quality items ranging from ceramics, stained glass and cushions to jam and cake, jewellery and greetings cards - all hand made. With different hand crafted items appearing every week, it will be a place to return to again and again. 

Deborah Jones, one of Craft Coop's organisers says, "We are very grateful to the Nicholsons Centre management for allowing us to use this space.  We are passionate about supporting our talented local craftspeople, and the shop enables us to showcase their work and at the same time, gives people the opportunity to purchase unique handcrafted gifts at reasonable prices.  We also hope that it will be a place where local people can come together and create, or just relax and enjoy the creative atmosphere."

Based mainly in Berks, Bucks and Oxon, the majority of Craft Coop's members live within 10 miles of Maidenhead.  The group has worked extensively with Maidenhead Town Centre partnership over the last year, staging several eagerly anticipated one day-and two-day Pop Up Shops in empty units in Maidenhead town centre, as well as organising craft fairs and other events in the area.

The shop will feature local craft and food products, Vintage Café from local bakers Happy Cakes, workshop space, gallery area displaying work by local schools and groups, and an area where people can come and relax, perhaps picking up a free book (in homage to the much loved former book shop it occupies), magazine, doing a spot of knitting, or just chatting with friends.  Workshops and creative activities are planned for all ages - ranging from collage making with toddlers through to crochet, jewellery, and lampshade making workshops, and a whole range of activities in between.
